National Volunteer Month – Volunteers Make Hope Happen

Community of Hope volunteers are integral to making our mission a reality. This National Volunteer Month, we’re celebrating the everyday kindness, creativity, and commitment they show.

Whether they’re welcoming families at Fam-Club, sorting donations, hosting a game night at our adult shelter, passing out backpacks, or transporting diapers across town to our families, our volunteers show up in countless meaningful ways. They bring consistency, care, and joy.  And their impact speaks for itself.

Our volunteers love being a part of our mission:

  • 506 volunteers spent countless hours volunteering with us.
  • 100% of volunteers said their experience was meaningful
  • 100% would recommend volunteering with us

Each volunteer =  snacks shared, laughter during UNO, and quiet moments of connection. They reflect lives touched — including those of our volunteers themselves.

Just ask Miles Lindsey, a Fam-Club volunteer since July 2024. By day, Miles supports individuals facing housing instability at another local organization. By evening, he brings joy and imagination to children at Fam-Club.

“Community of Hope is about uplifting families, and family is also about play—indulging creativity and creating space to relax the mind,” he shared.

“It allows for positive memories for children who are going through a tough time,” Miles said.

He clearly made an impression on at least one young child at Fam-Club, who said, as he pointed to Miles, that he wanted to be “a man, just like him” when he grew up.

Volunteer Chanel Carter also brings her heart to Fam-Club. After a recent session, she reflected:

“It was a small reminder that creating meaningful community spaces isn’t just about supporting kids’ creativity and making them feel empowered. It is what they can cultivate with that empowerment, all while exploring the freedom to shape their own experiences, even through something as simple as a coloring game.”

One volunteer at our Bridge Program for adults shared that watching Thursday night football with the residents was a “special moment. . .to enjoy a sporting event with good company felt like being at home.”

To every volunteer who shows up — thank you. You are the reason individuals and families in our community feel seen and supported. You bring hope.

Want to join our team of volunteers? We’d love to have you! Whether you’re looking to give back, build connections, or just have some fun while making a difference, there’s a place for you at Community of Hope.  Click here to discover volunteer opportunities.
