In the world of healthcare, where compassion, dedication, and up-to-date knowledge are paramount, medical assistants play a crucial role. Meet Leah Napier, a medical assistant at Community of Hope, dedicated to growth and her community.
Leah’s inspiration to become a medical assistant was deeply rooted in her genuine love of caring for others. “I remember when a patient stated that they were afraid of doctors offices’ because she felt that she was judged more than actually cared for,” recalls Leah. “The patient later stated to the provider that she feels very comfortable and open with my assistance because I show that I really care without any judgment involved.”
She firmly believes that staying up to date with health education is vital for providing the best patient care possible. Leah keeps herself informed about the latest healthcare developments by diligently completing educational requirements and staying informed through news and educational content.
So, when the opportunity to take courses through Community of Hope came about, Leah jumped at the chance. Thanks to a grant from the Direct Relief’s Fund for Health Equity, Community of Hope was able to offer advanced clinical care training to empower our medical assistants and nurses—enabling them to enhance their health coaching skills and team-based strategies. This initiative’s goal is to significantly improve preventative services for patients with chronic diseases in Ward 8, understanding the importance of the medical assistant role.
Leah’s motivation is rooted in her ability to walk in the shoes of her patients, empathizing with their unique situations. “My favorite part of this job is supporting patients through both the good and difficult times in their lives,” she says.
Thank you to Leah and all the other phenomenal medical assistants at Community of Hope.
