Community of Hope’s Night of Hope is a Success

Annual Event Brings Together Philanthropists, Business and Political Leaders

Washington, DC – October 11, 2018 – Over 400 guests gathered at The Rooftop of 101 Constitution for Community of Hope’s annual celebratory reception, Night of Hope, benefiting their work to end homelessness and improve health for DC families.  The host committee led by  the event’s co-chairs, Emily and Raj Madan and Melissa McGuire and Andy Miller, and generous sponsors, led by Bill and Joanne Conway of the Bedford Falls Foundation,  and hundreds of supporters raised significant funds to support their mission of creating opportunities for low-income families of Washington, DC.

Themed as being “A Light in Our Community”, the event welcomed guests to breathtaking views of city lights.   They also enjoyed a brief but impactful program, emceed by WUSA9 reporter, Delia Goncalves. 

During the program, Community of Hope’s President & CEO, Kelly Sweeney McShane expressed her gratitude and vision for how the organization will continue to serve as a light to our neighbors by addressing critical needs, including, ending family homelessness, improving health and wellbeing, and increasing family-sustaining income of low-income families across the city. “We believe that this is a city where every child and family should thrive – no matter where they live or what color their skin is.”

Christine Carroll, a client in both housing and healthcare programs, shared her inspiring story of overcoming significant health challenges and homelessness thanks to the light Community of Hope’s staff and services add to her life. The evening ended with a “Give Hope”, where attendees raised funds toward specific services, such as providing a safe place for families overcoming homelessness to sleep.

Community of Hope also honored Annabelle Lockhart, currently of Lockhart Insurance Services and formerly the director of the Civil Rights Center at the US Department of Labor, with the Tom Nees Award for Exceptional Service for her 30+ years of service to the organization.
