COMMUNITY OF HOPE EMBRACES “BOLD ACTIONS TOGETHER” AT THE 2023 ANNUAL NIGHT OF HOPE

The annual gala unites leaders from across sectors to champion the mission of ending homelessness and advancing health equity in Washington, DC.

WASHINGTON, DC, October 6, 2023 – A “Community of Hope” – comprised of donors, clients, volunteers, sponsors, staff, business and philanthropic leaders, and city officials – gathered last evening at Night of Hope, an annual cocktail reception supporting the organization.

Under the theme of “Bold Actions Together,” the community raised more than $400,000 for Community of Hope’s work to make Washington, DC more equitable by improving health and ending family homelessness in the nation’s capital. Sponsored by JP Morgan Chase and 27 other sponsors (see full list here), the event convened at the magnificent Potomac View Terrace at the American Pharmacists Association. The venue’s panoramic views, overlooking iconic landmarks like the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and National Mall, served as a fitting backdrop for the occasion.

This year’s Night of Hope was guided by an engaged event host committee co-chairs, John and Ann McAllister, Kellen Moore and Erin Henderson Moore. The program, led by Jenn White, Host of 1A from WAMU & NPR, showcased how everyone can give, volunteer, and serve to effect change. Kelly Sweeney McShane, President and CEO of Community of Hope, articulated her vision for the organization’s continued influence on health equity and homelessness in the community. Ms. Christina Smith, special client guest speaker, shared her remarkable journey, highlighting the pivotal role Community of Hope played in her experience with homelessness and emotional wellness. In the “Give Hope” moment,  guests met a $100,000 challenge grant by giving to ensure outcomes such as safe places to sleep, healthy babies and mothers, and hope-filled futures.

“At a moment when economic insecurity challenges so many in our city, I am encouraged to see the generosity of so many – with gifts from $50 to $50,000 – to ensure that everyone has the health, housing, and resources needed to thrive.  Thank you to everyone who came, cheered, cried, gave, and who will continue to take bold actions with us!,”. remarked Kelly Sweeney McShane.

With the steadfast support of our community, Community of Hope is set to make a profound impact in 2023, providing assistance to about 1,600 families experiencing homelessness and delivering care to more than 16,000 patients.
