COMMUNITY OF HOPE TO COLLABORATE WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS FOR 7th Annual Bellevue Back to School Bash

WASHINGTON, DC – Community of Hope, the District of Columbia Public Library’s William O Lockridge/Bellevue Library, and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) will host the 7th Annual Bellevue Back to School Bash on Wednesday August 14th.

The event will be hosted as a part of MPD’s Beat the Streets series, a traveling community festival established as a partnership between the Metropolitan Police Department, social service agencies, and community vendors. The family-friendly event is expected to garner over one thousand guests and dozens of local organizations. Over 1,000 FREE backpacks and school supplies will be given out to the prepare DC students for the upcoming school year.  Free haircuts, health screenings, food, educational resources, and much more will be available.  

WHAT: 7TH ANNUAL BELLEVUE BACK TO SCHOOL BASH 

WHO: Special guests include performances by Live Band Suttle and other local artists. Sponsors include Covenant Baptist UCC and Gallup. 

WHEN: Wednesday, August 14th from 2:30 pm until 8:30 pm. Backpacks will be distributed throughout the afternoon, while supplies last. 

WHERE: Atlantic Street, SW between MLK Avenue SW and South Capitol Street SW, in front of Community of Hope’s Conway Health and Resource Center and the Bellevue/William O Lockridge Public Library.

About Community of Hope: 

Founded in 1980, Community of Hope is a rapidly growing, innovative, and mission-driven nonprofit. Our team of about 250 caring, dedicated staff members provides housing, healthcare, and supportive services for low-income families in Washington, DC. We work to end and prevent family homelessness in Washington, DC and are the only nonprofit in DC providing all services along the homelessness continuum, having impacted 1,159 families in 2018. Our services include homelessness prevention, emergency shelter, transitional housing, rapid re-housing (a short-term rental subsidy and case management support) and permanent supportive housing (a long-term rental subsidy and case management support). In July 2018, the National Alliance to End Homelessness recognized Community of Hope with the Excellence in Ending Family Homelessness Nonprofit Sector Award. The recognition was granted to COH, government and private partners in Washington, DC as the city has reduced family homelessness by 21.98% since 2016. We also operate three Federally Qualified Health Centers, offering medical, dental, and emotional wellness as well as extensive patient supportive services which reached 12,744 people with nearly 60,000 visits in 2018.
