When Kimberly talks about her health today, her face lights up. She feels stronger, more confident, and in control. After years of struggling with diabetes, she now eats better, has more energy, and her blood sugar is in a healthier range. “If you want to live a longer life, you have to take care of yourself,” she said.
That triumph didn’t come easy. Just a few months ago, Kimberly signed up for Community of Hope’s six-week diabetes program, promising she wouldn’t miss a class. “I prayed before every class, ‘God, please help me commit,’” she remembered. “I knew I had no excuse not to be there.”
Kimberly kept her promise. Week after week, she showed up—and she found the program to be, in her words, “beautiful.” It gave her daily tools: reading food labels, checking sugar in drinks, and using the plate tool as a daily reminder to fill her plate with more vegetables and smaller portions of meat. Group activities, like posting meal ideas and discussing them together, kept her engaged and motivated.
By the end of six weeks, Kimberly was seeing and feeling the results. “I could see the progress, and that pushed me to keep going,” she said. Nutritionist Kathy McNeely, who leads the program, was just as proud: “In our diabetes education group there were three patients who made lifestyle changes and lowered their A1Cs—and Kimberly was one of them.”
Kimberly has been a patient at Community of Hope for more than three years, receiving both primary care and emotional wellness support. She calls the program a turning point in her journey when everything she learned and came together. “The program showed me I can really do this.”
Her story proves that when determination meets support, six weeks can be the start of a healthier future.
