Dr. Shayna Waites Funna is a licensed clinical social worker who received her PhD and MSW from Howard University. She comes to Community of Hope with over a decade of clinical practice and two decades of work in mental health services between North Carolina, Maryland and Washington, DC. She specializes in addressing historical trauma, supporting youth transitioning into adulthood, youth aging out of foster care, supporting individuals in recovery, and empowering women through life transitions. Her approach to therapy is holistic, trauma-informed, and person centered while emphasizing the unique strengths and capabilities of each individual.Â
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Waites Funna has been involved in community outreach efforts and research aimed at reducing inequities in access to mental health and recovery services. She has dedicated time to participate in interdisciplinary collaborations and think tanks aimed at strengthening families and improving the lives of individuals and families involved in the child welfare system.
During her free time, she enjoys traveling, planning trips for others, dancing, attending festivals, and spending time with friends and family.
