January is National Mentoring Month! At Community of Hope, we celebrate the profound impact of mentoring relationships. Whether you are a seasoned mentor or contemplating becoming a mentor with us, the influence you wield can catalyze positive change.
Did you know that youth with a mentor are:
- 92% more likely to volunteer regularly in their communities.
- 75% more likely to have held a leadership position in a club or sports team.
- 22% more likely to have experienced a strong sense of belonging while growing up.
These statistics underscore the transformative power of mentorship. Now, let’s introduce you to three exceptional mentees who share their unique perspectives on the importance of their mentors.

Jayla
Jayla, a vibrant 16-year-old with big dreams, found an unwavering supporter in her mentor, Taylor. After two years of collaboration, Jayla describes Taylor as funny, outgoing, and nice. With aspirations to open a daycare, Jayla got a firsthand look at the industry through Taylor’s efforts, leaving her inspired and excited to chart her plans.
Learning valuable life lessons, Jayla credits her mentor for instilling the mantra “Keep going no matter what.” Their bond reflects the essence of mentorship, where dreams are nurtured, and goals become achievable.

Terrance
Terrance, driven by a craving for adventure, sought a mentor to explore new horizons. Paired with Simon in 2018, Terrance appreciates Simon’s adventurous and smart qualities. From trying Indian food for the first time to inspiring his younger brother to join the mentoring program, Terrance’s journey highlights the transformative impact of mentorship.
Simon supports Terrance’s dreams, whether it’s NBA success or creating his own video game. Together, they have forged a bond of growth, laughter, and shared ambitions.

Dillon
Dillon, a determined 14-year-old, joined the mentoring program seeking fun and academic support. Motivated by his brother’s positive experiences, Dillon found the perfect mentor in Mark. In just a few months, their bond has flourished, evident in shared experiences from the circus to Comic-Con.
Dillon envisions NFL stardom, with real estate as a backup plan. The mentorship with Mark has become exactly what Dillon desired, highlighting the transformative potential of mentorship in shaping futures.
