Volunteer Spotlight: Taylor’s Dedication to Community

When Taylor and her husband moved to Ward 8 three years ago, she knew she wanted to connect with her community in a meaningful way. Taylor found a perfect match in the wide variety of Community of Hope programs that allow her to build relationships and make a lasting impact.

Since February 2022, she has been a vibrant and devoted presence at Fam-Club—regular family game nights for families living in our short-term shelter hosted by committed volunteers. After just one visit, Taylor was happy to return and has since been coming twice a week to lead activities, foster joy, and support families.

“The families are what keep me inspired,” Taylor shares. “Getting to know the parents, caregivers, and children at The Triumph each week has been a highlight of my time volunteering. The relationships I’ve built with the families and Community of Hope staff mean so much to me.”

Beyond Fam-Club, Taylor began mentoring Jayla, then an incoming high school freshman connected with Community of Hope’s permanent supportive housing program. Over the past three years, the duo have formed a close bond for the now 11th grader. Together, they’ve enjoyed unique experiences, from yoga classes to scooter rides downtown. One of Taylor’s favorite memories was accompanying Jayla on a college tour, watching her excitement grow as she envisioned new opportunities for her future.

Taylor also volunteers monthly as an organizer for the Baby & Parent Closet at our Family Health and Birth Center. Our Baby & Parent closet is a place for families to find clothing and baby items that are donated. With her self-described Type-A personality, Taylor finds joy in ensuring the closet is tidy and well-organized. “Knowing that families can have a seamless ‘shopping’ experience makes all the effort worthwhile,” Taylor says.

Whether she’s facilitating a lively game of Uno at Fam-Club or carefully folding baby clothes, Taylor’s commitment to Community of Hope is evident in everything she does. Her dedication, enthusiasm, and care truly embody the spirit of building a stronger, more connected community. Thank you, Taylor, for all that you do!
