Not a Matter of Choice, Being Homeless

Not a Matter of Choice, Being Homeless

Not a Matter of Choice, Being Homeless

This letter was written by an 11-year-old whose family is in our Home Now Permanent Supportive Housing Program. Home Now families receive housing support and case management services to help them maintain permanent, stable housing while they address other life concerns.

It began with a horrendous section of our lives, when we became homeless. The beginning of a ghastly stage. We had lost everything that mattered to us. My oldest brother, myself, and grandmother that had been taking care of us since the beginning. One day we found a short period hotel that we could stay at.
During this transaction, my brother experienced many difficult and tragic things. He’d forcefully been attacked and robbed multiple times. This was an emotional distress for him. At the time it was very stressful to deal with.

After all the time we spent at the hotel we had to eventually leave. Until one day my grandmother met a woman named Sarah. I call Sarah Ms. Sarah for respect. She works for the organization called Community of Hope. Our time with Community of Hope was the start of something new.

This organization works to support families with healthcare, housing, and education. From that day on Ms. Sarah has been helping us with getting a place to live. Since then my brother has been getting through with no problem. Also, Ms. Sarah has been a miracle to us for some time now. It’s like God sent her from heaven.

Since she’s been helping we have a house to live in. Now thanks to Sarah and the organization we got our life back. I’m so grateful to have been in this program.

God loves and cares for us and he desires the very best for us.
