Labor and Delivery through A Father’s Eyes

Labor and Delivery through A Father’s Eyes

Labor and Delivery through A Father’s Eyes

“Community of Hope genuinely advocates not just for the mom, but the whole family.”

After a fearful first birthing experience at a hospital, the Milling-Robinson family came to Community of Hope’s Family Health and Birth Center in 2016. Today, Marcus Robinson, husband and father of now four children, says making the choice to switch healthcare providers was one of the best decisions his family made. “Community of Hope was very open and welcoming. At our first visit, it didn’t feel like they were looking or judging my family. There was more of getting to know who we are and desire to know what our birthing plans for our family were.”

Five years later, Marcus and his wife, Mercedez, remain committed to the compassionate prenatal and postpartum care they receive from the midwives at Community of Hope. From Marcus’ perspective, there’s always been a sincere level of attention and support during each pregnancy and labor experience that is not only given to his wife but the entire family.

“The midwives always made sure Mercedez knew she was in control of her pregnancy. They always acknowledged her feelings and emotions. And, I’ve seen nurses get annoyed by women and how they respond to labor. But, the midwives at Community of Hope were able to talk to Mercedez and support her in the way she needed support.”

Marcus appreciates that he has been able to be so involved with each birthing experience and hopes other fathers are able to have the same experiences. “Being a father to me means that I’m given an opportunity and responsibility of little human beings that will one day grow to be an adult. I hope I can provide them with the tools and strategies I learned in life and show them everything I can so they can be prepared in life.”
