Community of Hope: The ‘One Stop Shop!’

Michele Ruffin glowed as she discussed her two untitled mixed media art pieces that hang along the fourth floor wall of our new Conway Health and Resource Center. “Have you tried spinning one of the flowers yet?” she asked.

Since the health and resource center began seeing patients in mid-January,Ms. Ruffin has referred to Community of Hope as a ‘one stop shop’ a place where all her needs are met: housing, health and dental care!

Ms. Ruffin was referred to Community of Hope in 2011 during her eight-month stay at Harriet Tubman Women’s Shelter.   Although distraught after losing her job, her home, and a few long-time friends, Ms. Ruffin was eager to change her circumstances.  Working closely with her Community of Hope case manager, Halicia, Ms. Ruffin has advocated for her needs and has been stably housed in our permanent supportive housing for the last eighteen months!

Now that Community of Hope has opened the Conway Health and Resource Center down the road, Ms. Ruffin travels only a short distance to receive health and dental services.

“I come from a time when doctors used to make house visits. Since they don’t do this anymore, it’s nice having the Conway Health and Resource Center in the community where we live.”
