Bellevue’s Back to School Bash Kicks off Another Year of Free Backpacks and Family Fun 

The 11th annual Bellevue Back to School Bash is hosted by Community of Hope, DC Public Library, and Metropolitan Police Department to support local Ward 8 residents prepare for the upcoming school year. 

Washington, DC – August 8, 2023 – The Bellevue community is celebrating education and health this year at the 11th annual Back to School Bash. This event, hosted by Community of Hope, the Bellevue/William O. Lockridge Neighborhood Library, and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), is a local community celebration that distributes more than 1,500 backpacks and school supplies to the community, offers health screenings, connection to educational and public safety resources, and family fun activities. 

What: A community family event focused on distributing more than 1,500 backpacks, health screenings, raffles and prizes, live entertainment, and family fun activities. This year Amazon Housing Equity Fund, HomeSnap, and the DC Department of Parks and Recreation joined as major event supporters, ensuring an abundance of backpacks and exciting raffle items, including Google Chromebooks and much more.  The event is a part of MPD’s annual Beat The Streets series of events.  

Who: Representatives and leadership from Community of Hope, Bellevue/William O. Lockridge Neighborhood Library, and the Metropolitan Police Department, plus more than 1,000 participants, volunteers, neighborhood and community members, staff, and providers. 

When: Tuesday, August 8, 2023, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.  

Where: The event is held at the Bellevue Neighborhood Library and Community of Hope on Atlantic Street SW between MLK Avenue and South Capitol Street.
