You must register at the Virginia Williams Family Resource Center (FRC). It is located at 920-A Rhode Island Avenue, NE, Washington, DC 20017, and the telephone number is (202) 546-0017 or (202) 724-4208.  Virginia Williams FRC is the central intake office for all families with children requesting emergency shelter and assistance in the District of Columbia.  In addition to the initial needs assessment and determination of family eligibility for shelter, Virginia Williams offers a variety of services, including counseling, substance abuse education, and employment and housing placement assistance. Community of Hope only accepts families through Virginia Williams Family Resource Center for our family shelters, although if your family is currently homeless and you are also in need of alcohol and/or chemical dependency treatment services, you may be eligible for our transitional housing program. To find out if you are eligible for this transitional housing program, you can call (202) 563-1060. Back to Top

How do I get help getting out of shelter and into my own apartment?

To find out if you are eligible for the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program, which can help individuals and families move from shelter into their own apartments by providing a security deposit, first month’s rent, and short-term rental assistance, call (202) 407-7774. Back to Top

If you are single and in need of housing and social services, please contact the shelter and hypothermia hotline at 1 (800) 535-7252 or (202) 399-7093. Community of Hope’s housing is for families with children only. Back to Top

I need help with my rent.

Currently, Community of Hope has no funds to assist with rental arrears, utility arrears, and other homelessness prevention emergency needs. If you need short-term financial assistance, please call: Catholic Charities, (202) 574-3442; Housing Counseling Services, (202) 667-7006; or, The Community Partnership for the Prevention of Homelessness, (202) 724-4208.

In addition, the District of Columbia Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) helps low-income District residents facing housing emergencies. ERAP serves low-income DC households with children, elderly households (age 60 or older), and people with disabilities. The amount paid on behalf of eligible families depends on a household’s income and available resources, and is subject to certain limitations. For information on ERAP, contact Virginia Williams Family Resource Center at (202) 546-0017 or (202) 724-4208.
