Master's of Public Health Intern

About Community of Hope: Community of Hope (COH) is a leader in addressing the healthcare and housing needs of Washington, DC’s most economically vulnerable residents. Community of Hope’s mission is to improve the health and quality of life of low-income, homeless, and underserved families and individuals in the District of Columbia by providing healthcare, housing with supportive services, educational opportunities, and spiritual support. COH provides primary healthcare, dental care and behavioral health services in its clinic. COH also provides housing services for homeless families with children at all points within the homeless continuum of care.
 
About the Internship: This is an unpaid position. The intern is expected to commit 8 to 16 hours a week.  Start and the internship will last approximately 4 months. The schedule and duration is flexible.Intern will work at Community of Hope Health Services, a community health center, located in Adams Morgan, accessible by public transportation.                                              
 
This internship will enable the MPH student to apply knowledge acquired in the classroom setting to public health practice through experiential activities. COH provides this opportunity for the student to work in a public health setting. Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the intern will participate in designing and implementing one of the specific topics given below.
 
     1. Weight assessment and counseling for children and adolescents.
     2. Tobacco use assessment and counseling.
     3. Appropriate treatment of persistent asthma in patients aged 5-40.
 
Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree; enrolled in MPH or PhD program or related master’s level program.

As an Intern You Will:
• Become familiar with the inner workings of a Federally Qualified Health Center
• Gain an in-depth understanding of Community of Hope’s mission and campaigns
• Research and evaluate new health-related policies and procedures
• Gather and draft information for internal and external communications
• Collect and analyze data
 
To Apply:
A project proposal must be submitted to be considered for this internship. The proposal must be 3 to 5 pages on one of the topics of your choice, listed above. The proposal should include a description of the project including motivation for the work and a delineation of the student’s specific responsibilities and goals for the project.
