Employment Specialist Intern
About Community of Hope: Community of Hope (COH) is a leader in addressing the healthcare and housing needs of Washington, DC’s most economically vulnerable residents. Community of Hope’s mission is to improve the health and quality of life of low-income, homeless, and underserved families and individuals in the District of Columbia by providing healthcare, housing and supportive services, educational opportunities, and spiritual support. COH provides primary healthcare, dental care and behavioral health services in its clinic. COH also provides housing services for homeless families and children at all points within the homeless continuum of care.
About the Internship: This is an unpaid position. The intern is expected to commit 8-15 hours a week. Start date is flexible, and the internship will last approximately 4 months. The schedule duration is flexible. This is an ideal position for someone who would like to be actively involved with assisting COH households become economically self-sufficient.
Intern will work in COH administrative headquarters, located in Dupont Circle, as well as the Hope Apartments located in Congress Heights. Responsibilities include researching current job fairs and current job openings, scheduling meetings with clients, and assisting clients with computer related job tasks such as online profiles and job applications.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Age 18.
• 3.0 G.P.A at time of application.
• Enrolled in a higher education institution.
• Satisfy background clearance requirements which includes:
-TB test
-MPD clearance (or higher).
The Ideal Candidate Has:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Working knowledge of spreadsheets and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Experience using job search websites and online applications.
• An interest in supporting clients transition back into the workforce.
• Flexibility and the ability to deal with many tasks and prioritize.
As an Intern You Will:
• Become knowledgeable about the process of re-entering the workforce with limited skills, education and/or work history.
• Assist clients with updating their resume, creating online profiles, and applying for jobs.
• Research and present applicable jobs for the clients desired career choices.
• Schedule time for clients to meet with the Employment Specialist.
• Brainstorm and create engaging employment related workshops.
• Compile client success stories, employment themes; such as career obstacles and hot jobs, and current employers hiring to put into the COH monthly employment newsletter.
